Inside Sales and Sport at Headline Events Ltd
From opening doors in new markets to catching the action live at some of the UK’s top sporting events, Elliot’s role at Headline Events Ltd is anything but ordinary. In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we dive into his day-to-day life, passions, proudest achievements, and the culture that drives the business forward.
A Day in the Life
Elliot’s day starts with a coffee and a quick round of admin and LinkedIn outreach to set the tone. Then, it’s onto the phones, working through a dynamic mix of client lists, warm prospects, and fresh leads. Each day often focuses on a particular event or series, like the Six Nations at Murrayfield or Twickenham.
Afternoons are dedicated to follow-ups, finalising conversations, and getting ahead of the next day’s priorities. Occasionally, there’s a need to stay late and catch clients who were missed earlier in the week. But with 3 PM Friday finishes, the team always has a little reward waiting at the end of a busy week.
A Journey That Started by Chance
“I kind of fell into the industry,” Elliot explains. After running his own business for several years, he realised his passion for sales and looked for something more stable. Given his lifelong love for rugby and sport, the events and hospitality sector felt like a natural fit.
He spotted a job listing, took a chance, and the rest is history. “It helps that we actually get to attend some of the events too. That’s a real bonus.”
Launching Something New
Since joining Headline Events, Elliot has played a key role in launching the Manchester office. This included laying the foundations of a new branch, building a client base from scratch, and creating relationships in a fresh and competitive market.
“It brought back a real passion for new business development,” he shares. “I enjoy opening doors, creating opportunities, and making things happen.”
Culture That Makes a Difference
“The culture here is genuinely one of the best parts of the job,” Elliot says. “Everyone supports each other, and that mutual respect is something you feel every day.”
From 11 AM Monday starts to early Friday finishes, the structure is designed to keep the team fresh and motivated. “Sales can be tough, but working in a relaxed, positive environment makes a huge difference. We all know what we’re here to do, and we hold each other accountable.”
Favourite Perks? The Events, Of Course
When asked what he loves most about working in sports and music hospitality, Elliot doesn’t hesitate. “I’d love to give an intellectual answer,” he laughs, “but honestly, it’s attending the events. Being part of that energy is something I’ve always loved.”
One moment that stands out involved a client who had been let down by another provider just before a major event. The team acted fast, secured the tickets, and delivered an incredible experience. “It was chaotic, but we pulled it off. That situation reminded me how important trust and speed are in this industry.”
Advice for Newcomers
Elliot is clear about what this role demands. “This is a sales-first job. The events and perks are fantastic, but you need to be able to perform.”
Sales experience helps, but it’s not essential. “The skills can be taught. Confidence, resilience, and the willingness to pick up the phone are what matter most.”
Behind the Scenes: The Personal Side of Elliot
Outside the Office
Elliot’s downtime is a mix of good food, time with friends, and staying active. You’ll find him in the gym, out for a run, on a hike, or even wild camping when time allows. “It’s a great way to reset,” he says.
Rugby, Football and Dream Events
Rugby is a big part of Elliot’s life. He supports Sale Sharks and follows the England internationals. “The upcoming Lions tour is one I’m really looking forward to.” As for football? “I’m a Manchester United fan, though I can take or leave them right now,” he jokes.
When asked what event he’d love to attend, the answer was quick. “The Singapore Grand Prix. I’ve done most of the big UK events and even a Rugby World Cup, but a foreign Grand Prix would be something else.”
Quickfire Round
Coffee Order: Latte
Cold Drink of Choice: Iced tea
Pint Recommendation: “I recently tried Menabrea for the first time and it was really lovely.”
Hidden Talents: “None really. I’m a pretty open book.”
Best Advice Ever Received:
“Things only have the meaning you assign to them. If you approach something with a negative mindset, that’s exactly how it will feel. But if you look for the seed of good in every situation, you can turn anything into a lesson.”
Final Thoughts
How would Elliot sum up his time at Headline Events Ltd in one sentence?
“Great 👍.”
Simple, honest, and exactly what you’d expect from someone who brings a passion for sport and people into everything he does.
